 about

Melissa Kocelko earned her Masters at the University of Denver in Anthropology with a concentration in Museum and Heritage Studies. Her thesis research explored the Indigenous comic book creators and their lived experiences.

Prior to this, she earned two Bachelor degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago, one in Anthropology and one in History. Her History thesis concentrated on the occupation of Alcatraz and her Anthropology capstone focused on the continued effects of the Red Power Movement in San Francisco.

Her interests are all forms of heritage preservation, dissecting representations in pop culture, and communicating the importance and use of anthropology and history in everyday situations.

In her free time, Melissa can be found at a movie theater, walking around outside, or designing her future tiny house.

It’s not a museum. It’s not a place of artifacts; it’s a place of ideas.”
