This blog briefly covers who I am, why I made this site, and what to expect.
It doesn’t need to be said that “2020 being a year like no other,” because, no shit. I could not even begin to compile a list of the socio-political events that took place in the US, let alone the world. Looking back on the year personally, a few key events stick out: the death of two of my grandparents early on in the year, the writing and defense of my thesis within a matter of months during a pandemic, graduating with my Master’s, the uncertainty of the job hunt and now the uncertainty of starting a new job in a new state.
All large milestones that I’m sure I’ll unpack later, but for now I want to talk about the last one since it’s part of the reason for this site. The pandemic rocked the way that many fields operate and the field of heritage preservation and museums is no different. With the majority of staff laid off and museum doors shut, how does a recent graduate navigate entering this field? I don’t know. Hopefully, we can figure that together.
In the meantime, I want to use this website to document my steps and talk about things I’m passionate about like anthropology, history, and pop culture. The goal isn’t to write little research projects but instead just share my thoughts on these topics through an academic lens. Down the line maybe they’ll transform into research projects, but for now let’s just get the conversation started.
